ICYMI: New 50-bed inpatient counseling facility to open in Carson City Spring 2022
Carson City Community Counseling Center, or CCC, has been helping those struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues in the capital city for 37 years. Now, they will be expanding their mission to serve their community by opening a 50 bed inpatient counseling facility on Fairview Dr. in the springtime.
“We’ve expanded tremendously in those 37 years,” said Carol Basagoitia of CCC. “A couple years ago we became a Certified Community Behavioral Health Center (CCBHC). We continue to see the need in our community for additional services, so we recently purchased the Silver State Charter High School on Fairview.”
CCC plans to transform the old school into a 50-bed inpatient facility, complete with a commercial kitchen, laundry facilities, showers, and separate facilities for men and women.
“What’s so great about that school is there are at least four different segregated areas, so another unique idea we are implementing is one of those units will be designated for women with their children, so mothers can bring their children to treatment with them,” said Basagoitia.
With the recent news about West Hills shutting its doors, that leaves one less place for people to receive treatment, and CCC understands the importance of filling that vacancy for the community.
“But we’ve got a facility coming, and we’ll open as soon as we can,” said Basagoitia.
Work is already underway on the landscaping of the facility with construction to quickly follow. Basagoitia hopes the facility will be able to be open in May or June 2022.
“We want the local community to know that there are resources,” said Basagoitia. “Right now, people are struggling. There aren’t enough resources for substance abuse, and COVID has only amplified these challenges; it’s tough. But we are here for them because the community needs it.”
CCC currently offers several outpatient services at their 205 S. Pratt location.
Basagoitia says that they are actively seeking donations from local businesses and community members, whether they be beds or blankets, baby items such as diapers, and wipes, or even simple monetary donations; CCC is a 501c3 non-profit and all donations are tax-deductible.
